Title: Nevermore (Crossbreed Series Book 6) Pdf
Raven returns to her childhood home to rebuild her severed relationship with her father. After a long year of capturing violent criminals and thwarting assassination plots, she could use a vacation.
But trouble is brewing on the home front. When Raven discovers her father is in financial peril, she's determined to set things right even if it means sacrificing her heart in the process. Meanwhile, her relationship with Christian is on shaky ground when a skeleton falls out of his closet. Will they be able to leave the past behind, or is the trust between them dead and buried?
It just keeps getting better! This was another cracker of a book in the Crossbreed series. The book picks straight up from where Blackout finished, thankfully not dragging out the somewhat of a cliffhanger from the former installment. This book had a slightly different plot line to previous books, but the same feeling and flavour that has me already wanting the next one to be out already. Whereas the other 5 books centre around Keystone and their latest case, Book 6 really delved more heavily into the background and history of Raven and Christian as individuals and what that means for them as a couple. Don't get me wrong, there was still plenty happening like you'd expect from this author, but it focused on the drama that was surrounding the key players. If you haven't read Book 5, Blackout, you really need to before you start this one.Raven takes a hiatus from Keystone, leading Viktor to give everyone a couple of weeks off to recuperate from the high voltage events resulting from the blackout in Book 5, as well as give them time to adjust to Hunter (Shepherd's son) being around the house. Hunter was a great little, feel-good addition to the book that popped up throughout. He is bringing a lot of depth to the other characters and plays a sweet role in the Keystone family.Raven moves back home for the short term to reconnect with Crush. I loved Crush. He was a great addition to former books and we really get to know him better in Nevermore. He's abrupt, stubborn and fiercely loves Raven. Raven learns that he's in financial trouble and has borrowed money from less than reputable loan sharks who also happen to be lion shifters, making things take a turn for the worse. We get introduced to the breed world surrounding Crush and finally get to meet Switch, who some readers might remember was the handsome young man who escorted Raven to a school dance after she was stood up by some douche. Switch was a really strong character and featured regularly throughout the book. He was likeable, cute and loyal. He makes a bit of play for Raven, but very respectfully.Christian's background with Lenore is finally explained, consequently revealing a series of breadcrumbs about his past that climaxes into an explanation of why he is the way he is. While I wanted to smash Lenore's face in with an impalement stake for a lot of the book, I get why she had to be there. Be warned - there is a bit of drama with her being Christian's former love of his life and it tread very close to her being a cause for Raven and Christian's relationship to break down. While Lenore wreaked havoc by making a play for Christian, the author thankfully didn't drag this out as a love triangle or a potential 'other woman' situation. I was very appreciative that things were explained and tidied up quickly as I would have hated this and Dannika Dark is a million times better than falling for this age old plot line (which she didn't, bless her).As for Raven and Christian? The continued to be fabulous. Raven was her usual strong, kickas$ self who continued to struggle with the transition from her former human life to being a crossbreed. She had several, candid moments with Crush about her past, her feelings and her immortality, giving the book a bit of a melancholy, nostalgic feel and making Raven's character feel pretty raw as she tried to show her dad how much she loved him and apologise for where her life had taken her. Christian was delicious, as always. A slight gripe I had was that he didn't feature as much as I would have liked in the book and there wasn't too much from his point of view as Raven mostly took the reigns. Luckily the author made up for it with a few steamy scenes towards the end and, finally, a candid conversation between our two lovers about where their relationship is headed - YES! No spoilers, but they finally start to move ahead with their relationship. There was very little on the Cyrus storyline and the other members of Keystone didn't feature overly much compared to other books, with the exception of Shepherd, whose short segments about his new relationship with his son were just beautiful. One thing I LOVED in big shouty capitals? Houdini popped up a few times. I love his character and what he's bringing to the series and have really enjoyed him being in the last few books. I can't wait to see where this storyline goes. He wasn't in the book too heavily, unfortunately, but enough to tease readers with his enigmatic and strangely charismatic ways. He's the guy I hate to love. While there was no case being solved, this book gave me more substance on the characters I adore, so while it did track along a bit differently, it was still a fantastic read that fans should get a lot out of. There wasn't the extra drama that some of the former books have due to a problem being solved, but it still held my attention and I didn't want it to end. Like I said, it did deal more with Raven and Christian trying to figure out who and what they were in the grand scheme of things and what their future might be, but I really loved this angle. There wasn't too much action, but there's a scene towards the end that was freaking awesome and made me fall further in love with Keystone which I didn't even think was possible. I found that Raven made giant leaps in reconciling her past with her father to her future with Keystone. It was raw and emotional I can't flipping wait for the next book. To me, this series just keeps getting better and better with the storyline continually evolving and has firmly entrenched itself as one of my all-time favourites.
